I know I haven’t blogged in a very, very long time. Summer in the Crazykidfamily tends to be haphazard. We lose all sense of routine and kind of fly by the seat of our pants. So here’s the update on us…
Bucket has been regularly using the gym membership I got him for his birthday and sees a personal trainer twice a week. This evening, he has been at the gym for two hours. He’s definitely slimming down, and I’m very excited for him and proud of him. I know that its a constant struggle for him. I also have a gym membership, and for the last few weeks, I’ve been much better about using it on a regular basis. My goal is to be able to wear a bikini with, if not pride, at least dignity when we go on our trip in March.
Pitcher (now 17 and entering his junior year of high school) has grown up SO much this summer. The child that used to be the hardest for me to deal with has become this nice young man. He still hunts, and I despise that, and he still loves guns, and I despise that too, but he’s…mellowed. He’s matured. I am so proud of how far he’s come this summer. Currently, he is at work, where he spends a lot of his time these days. His mom bought him a truck for his birthday, but it broke down before he could even get it home. I wish it hadn’t, he was so excited.
Princess’s summer has been filled with color guard. She (now 15 and entering her freshman year of high school) has experienced her first band camp and her first post-band camp, which ended last week. She has gone through every emotion from pride to glee to tears to desperation, but she’s stuck with it. She is currently laying on my living room floor “recovering.” This is her week off before it starts up in full again. Oh, and she still has the boyfriend, which I am also proud of her for. There have been moments this summer that have made me realize that she has become a full-fledged emotional teenage girl. This concerns me for the future, but so far things are still good. She just started asking me what she should wear for her school picture. I’m so glad she still talks to me about this stuff.
Prankster (now 12 and entering the seventh grade in middle school) has been…difficult this summer. He seems to have entered those teenage years early and decided that he not only knows everything but that he is entitled to anything his eye touches upon. I’m positive we will be able to beat this out of him
He had a busy summer of baseball and friendships and sleeping until noon. Today he went to get his hair cut and called me to ask how Monkeyboy’s hair is cut because he wants the same style.
Monkeyboy…my dear, sweet boy, is 4. He is in his final year of pre-school and I am struggling with mixed emotions over his growing up and into the next phase of his life. He’s STILL struggling with potty-training, which is the bane of my existence, I think. For the last week or so, he’s been going through a phase of testing his boundaries. Yesterday we were at dinner at Maggiano’s (love that place!) for my brother’s birthday and he stuck his head in an empty wine bucket and started yelling to hear the echo. That cracked me up.
And so…we are all gearing up for the start of school, which is a week from Wednesday! Hopefully I will get back to blogging on a regular basis as we settle back into our nice, mostly sane, routine.
